MHS Science Class in the 1940s
To browse a collection, select the collection by clicking on the name in the list above. You reach a general overview of the collection you selected, with a “Collection Link” at the top. Click on that link to get to the pictures in the collection.
Each collection is organized in folders by general topics. Thus, if you select the Larchmont Library Collection, you can then select the folder for the “Herbert Roth Photograph Collection” or another folder for the “Larchmont The Beautiful Collection.”
Once you get to a folder of images, you see a thumbnail of each image, and you can see the actual image by clicking on the thumbnail. Above the image are thumbnails of other images in the same collection so you can browse.
Searching the Collections
You can search a particular collection or the entire collection. In the upper right above any picture or collection you are viewing is a search box. Enter a name or search term and see what comes up!
If you want to search the entire collection, you have to navigate to the top folder if the archive. You can click here to reach the top folder, or select “Home” when you are browsing in any collection.
We have set up a list of indexing keywords. While indexing is not complete, if you search on these keywords you will reach those images that have already been indexed. For example, if you search using the keyword “workingfire” you see pictures of structures on fire.
If you type “1906 Palmer” into the search window and hit “go,” you’ll reach three images of The Corner Store, a presence in Larchmont’s downtown for over 50 years. There are two photos of the store before and after renovations in the 1940s and another in 2002.
